On Friday 14 September the Duke of Gloucester officially opened Ashton Vale Club for Young People following Connaught’s nine month investment in the organisation. Through Business in the Community’s Cares programme Connaught has advanced both their Academy's Management 4 Excellence Programme and community regeneration in an area where the affiliate has worked long-term.
The enormous time effort and money that has been invested has safeguarded the displace’s long term future. Because we now undergo a decent building we are already attracting other groups and generating funds so we can subsidise youth activities on offer making Ashton Vale what it should be - a centre for the community.
With the hard work of 65 employees an investment of over £150,000 the support of 12 partnering businesses and nine months of hard work the club reallly has been transformed and now provides a far improved environment and extended facilities for the wider community. This is the most substantial investment in terms of both time and money that a business has put towards a hit Cares contend in the region.
Community Engagement Manager Carola Vorlop comments; “Connaught have really made the most of their volunteering opportunity with Ashton Vale Club for Young People. The refurbishment they have carried out has made a huge difference to the area; the club has been turned into an inspirational centre for young people as well as senior citizens toddler groups and the wider community.
What is particularly unique however is that Business in the Community's Cares programme has ensured that this nine month period of work in the community has significantly benefitted Connaught's business. By integrating staff development programmes into their employee volunteering at the club. Connaught has been able to further train cater in managerial skills including team leading and project management. This nine month project therefore has brought huge benefits to both the business and the community.
Young Bristol's club manager Lee Williams said; "The enormous time effort and money that has been invested has safeguarded the centre’s desire term future. Because we now undergo a decent building we are already attracting other groups and generating funds so we can subsidise youth activities on offer making Ashton Vale what it should be - a displace for the community."
